I lost 2 kg after I started working from home in early 2020 because I reduced sugar intake.
We know refined sugar and refined wheat don’t help us improve our health but we simply cannot stop eating cookies and chocolate... I was there.
Study shows eating sweets increases the speed of aging.
Eating too much sugar may cause obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. And it may deteriorate our skin condition.
I managed to walk away from eating sweets mindlessly. Here are my observations.
Cause of unstoppable sugar taking and how to stop
1. Physically hungry – lack of ingredients
When you find you cannot stop eating sweets, check if your daily diet is balanced. Are you eating vegetables, fruits, fish, and meat as well?
When you keep eating sweets, you may feel you are still hungry. So you keep eating. But this is because you are lacking certain ingredients. You are not providing the necessary ingredients to yourself.
For example, you are eating cookies. By eating cookies, you are giving carbohydrates and fat to yourself, but if you need vitamin B, your body wants to get vitamin B. So you still don’t feel satisfied because you are not getting vitamin B and keep eating. You are not providing the right nutrition. So your hunger doesn’t go away. It is a vicious cycle.
HOW TO FIX:
Have a balanced meal every day!
2. Emotionally hungry – negative emotions don’t go away
We often eat sweets to suppress our feelings that we don’t want to feel, such as stress, loneliness, sadness, anxiety, etc. While we are eating sweets, we can forget about the negative feelings.
But after a while, these feelings come back until we feel the feelings fully.
So, next time those feelings come to you, why don’t you feel the feeling to the fullest before you go to sweets?
HOW TO FIX:
Feel your emotion to the fullest!
Thank food even though it is junk food
Even though you are eating unhealthy food, if you hate the food, or disrespect the food, the energy of the food goes down. I believe each food has energy. By appreciating it, the energy level rises.
In addition, you will be more mindful of what you are eating by appreciating what you are eating.
So, thank food, eat mindfully.
