The power of autumn foods with a simple & easy recipe

Autumn is the harvest season. A lot of foods are in season at the moment.

Foods in season have the highest nutrition in the year, and those foods become the tastiest in the year.

Did you know spinach in winter has three to four times more vitamin C than in summer?

So, I have a suggestion.

When you cook, or you eat, go with foods in season, go with quality (fresh and organic), and taste them fully. Autumn is the best season to do this. If you taste them fully, you don't need so many seasonings.

First, do you know which vegetable, fruit, fish and shellfish are in season in your place? Do your own research if you don’t know. It’s fun!!

Here are foods in autumn in Japan.

Vegetables:

Turnip, Lotus root, Sweet potato

Fruit:

Chestnut, Apple, Pear, Grapes, Persimmon

Fish:

Sanma(Pacific saury), Sardine, Salmon, Saba (Mackerel)

Those foods are the most delicious and actually, the prices are the lowest in the year in Japan now.

Here is my recipe for sweet potatoes, which is easy and delicious! Try this.

<Sweet potato with lemon>

(makes 2-3 servings)

2 sweet potatoes

½ organic lemon

Water

a pinch of salt

Optional: sugar

1. Cut sweet potatoes into 1-cm-thick slices

2. Slice lemon

3. Put 1 and 2 into a pan, and boil in just enough water to cover the sweet potatoes and lemon for 15 minutes

4. When the sweet potatoes become soft, it is done.

You will find the fantastic compatibility of sweetness in sweet potato and sourness in lemon.
