Are cosmetics beneficial?

When you google “how to get clear skin”, you will see a lot of beauty products coming up.

But I don’t believe those cosmetic products are so beneficial as nutritious foods and deep sleep.

I will use cream when I want to keep my skin moisturized especially in winter, but I don’t invest so much time, energy and money in cosmetic products. Rather it is more worth thinking how I can have more nutritious foods and how I can sleep more deeply.


Skin is the largest organ in our body. And it reflects what is happening in our body. To observe our skin is to know our health level.


Food

My experience

In 2016, I was hit by terrible eczema. I got them mainly in legs and feet. It was super itchy. Transparent liquid always came out of the eczema parts. I guessed my body was eliminating toxin. I thought I was eating healthy stuff, so I didn’t know what caused this. I went to see a dermatologist, and he gave me a lot of medications. After taking the medicines, the eczema went away immediately, but when I stopped taking the medicine, it came out again. I didn't want to rely on the medicine to remove my skin problem.


After a couple of months, I was still suffering from the eczema. I traveled to Sri Lanka for holiday whereI took some Ayurveda sessions there. The doctor said I was taking too much acidic foods, and that might be the cause of the eczema. I realized how much I was taking acidic foods, such as cheese.


I started to reduce dairy products, and started to take more leafy vegetable.

Then the eczemas gradually disappeared. I realized the eczema was trying to tell me my meal is not balanced.


Sleep

New habit

After I started working from home in April 2020 due to Covid-19, I no longer walk as much as I did. I do less exercise than I did.

I noticed this is not good for my body at all.


So I started a new custom. Every day during lunch time, I walk outside for 30 minutes, and I take a Zoom yoga class almost every weekday. By the time I sleep, I am sleepy enough.

One more important thing for good sleep is I wear socks when I sleep to make my feet warm. This is so good. Try with the loose socks.

By the way, I don’t drink coffee and tea (except decaffeinated ones) for good sleep.

Benefit of Cosmetics

Then, what is good about cosmetic?

When you use your favorite cosmetics with amazing fragrance, you feel relaxed. You also feel you are important, you are valuable and you deserve to enjoy this rich cream. You are telling to yourself that you deserve this gorgeous cream. You feel like a queen. Your self-esteem will go up. So I still buy cosmetics.
